Incidence of Amputation Among Displaced Diabetic Patients During the Sudan War 2024: A Cross-Sectional Study at New Halfa Hospital

Abstract : Diabetic foot complications are a leading cause of non-traumatic amputations globally, with disproportionate impact in conflict-affected regions. This study investigates the socio-demographic, clinical, and healthcare disparities among diabetic amputees treated at New Halfa Hospitals during the Sudan conflict. A cross-sectional comparative analysis was conducted on 147 diabetic amputees, stratified by displacement status. Data were collected on socio-economic indicators, clinical presentation, a

Uncommon Lumbar Presentation of White Mycetoma Successfully Managed with Wide Excision and Skin Grafting: A Case Report from Sudan

Abstract : White mycetoma is a chronic, granulomatous infection caused by fungal organisms, typically affecting the lower limbs of individuals in tropical and subtropical regions. Atypical anatomical presentations, such as lumbar involvement, are rare and pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This case report describes a 53-year-old male farm worker from Gezira State, Sudan, who presented with a 10-month history of painless swellings and multiple sinuses in the right lumbar region. The patient had pr

Late Prenatal Diagnosis of Dandy-Walker Malformation: A Case Report from Sudan Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract : Dandy-Walker malformation (DWM) is a rare congenital anomaly of the posterior fossa, often detectable via prenatal neurosonography. In low-resource settings, delayed diagnosis remains a challenge, especially during healthcare disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic. We report a case of DWM diagnosed at 36+5 weeks gestation in a Sudanese patient with limited access to structured prenatal screening. Initial scans were undocumented, and the anomaly was missed until late gestation. Despite multidi

Fetal Distress as a Leading Indication for Primary Cesarean Section: A Cross-Sectional Study at Omdurman Maternity Hospital

Abstract : Fetal distress remains a leading indication for primary cesarean section (CS), yet its predictive factors in high-parity populations like those in Saudi Arabia require further elucidation. This study analyzed 1,196 primary CS cases at OMH to identify clinical and demographic predictors of fetal distress. A retrospective cross-sectional analysis was conducted using univariate and multivariate techniques. Key variables assessed included maternal age, parity, gestational age, type of CS, neonatal i
