EXPLORING THE SYNERGISTIC ANTIMICROBIAL AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY POTENTIAL OF LYCOPENE-RASPBERRY HERBAL EXTRACTS: IMPLICATIONS FOR ORAL HEALTH AND CHEMOPREVENTION
Oral microbial flora has been established to be one of the predisposing factors for oral carcinogenesis and utilization of herbal medicine such as Lycopene and Raspberry with enriched antioxidant properties as topical formulations will aid in chemoprevention. Aim and Objectives of the study is to formulate and assess the antimicrobial and antioxidant property of lycopene-raspberry herbal formulation. This study includes the usage of Lycopene (10%) and Raspberry (25%) which are subjected to anti-inflammatory testing using bovine serum albumin (BSA) assay and toxicity testing using brine shrimp lethality assay. Results of the study proved Lycopene and Raspberry formulation has inhibition percentage of 87.2% in anti-inflammatory action and maximum shrimp fish survival (5 nos) was seen in 20µL and 30µL concentrations. From the above results it can be concluded that lycopene-raspberry extracts have significant antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and less cytotoxic effects, hence herbal topical formulations can be effectively and safely used with aim of chemoprevention.
